The Square scarf is made from a 100% natural merino wool jersey fabric. The fabric is cut to 75cm sq raw, and then I proceed to dye each scarf by hand, using naturally sourced plant or food waste dyes. I always dye each scarf individually, meaning each one is completely unique!

After the dyeing process the size and the shape of the fabric is altered, maintaining a sense of its process and uniqueness. The edge is raw cut, but will not fray and will naturally roll.

This particular scarf was dyed using Stinging Nettle, foraged from woodland and bridleways in the Surrey Hills, where I live. Extracting the dye takes a few days of simmering and soaking, varying shades of green and taupe are created. Each small dye batch varies so much based on seasonality, quantities and whether i choose to use just the top leaves or the whole plant.

After the dyeing process this scarf was bundle dyed with onion skins, a process of wrapping the fabric and steaming it. Creating these one-of-a-kind prints of abstract shapes, unwrapping them is a great surprise!
